At Arrowhead Veterinary Center, we believe that good preventive care is a key component in keeping our pets healthy and happy. We recommend that pets come in for regular wellness consultations – annual exams for younger pets and twice annually for seniors.  At these consultation appointments, our veterinarians will perform a complete physical examination including […]

Dental health has become well recognized as an important component of your pet’s overall health. Dental disease in pets has been linked to chronic pain as well as heart, liver and kidney disease. When your pet is in for a medical or wellness appointment, one of our veterinarians will examine their teeth and look for […]

Similar to people, good nutrition for our pets can make a huge difference in how they feel, their activity level and their overall wellness. At Arrowhead Veterinary Centre, our veterinarians, animal health technologists and support staff are all well trained and knowledgeable about different aspects of animal nutrition. We regularly attend continuing education courses on […]

At Arrowhead Veterinary Centre, we offer therapeutic laser as a potential treatment for various painful conditions. Therapeutic lasers are also called “cold” lasers. Laser light at a specific wavelength is delivered to tissues to increase circulation, simulate the immune system and increase collagen and muscle tissue development. Therapeutic lasers have been identified to reduce pain and inflammation of tissues and encourage healing.

Our veterinarians are dedicated to providing our clients and their pets with the safest and most effective anesthesia and surgery. Many of our clients have some anxiety when their pet needs surgery. We tailor our anesthesia and surgery to each individual patient and stay current on the therapies and medications useful for each procedure.

The toughest decision we will ever make for our pets is deciding about euthanasia. Euthanasia is inducing death in an animal to relieve pain and suffering. Some of these animals will be quite elderly while unfortunately others are younger.

What our clients say

Arrowhead Vet is the best in Cochrane. I’ve been going with my little Morkie for the past 3 years and my new little addition-(a Yorkie)-has started to visit this friendly and knowledgeable facility as well. I highly recommend Arrowhead Vet!!

Thanks to Dr. Charlene and Arrowhead #dukethebostonterrier will recover from three hours of dental surgery with none of the pain he’s been dealing with since he was a puppy ( puppy mill rescue we think is about 7 ). They will also take care of #dixiethebostonterrier with preventative dental work so she grows up into an even happier adult dog. They take care of all of our four legged kids. 4 dogs and 3 cats.

Arrowhead exceeded my expectations. The Vet was very knowledgeable and the staff were very supportive and attentive.

Arrowhead makes my family feel like their family. They are honest and take extra care with my poodle. A few years ago we nearly lost Loki at the young age of 1 year because he had ingested 4 socks while in another persons care. We knew he had a “passion” for socks and had warned his puppy sitter who was adamant that he had no had access to her footwear. Libby and her team took a look at an X-ray and said “he’s eaten something and it’s blocking his gut even though we can’t see it”. They told me to get him down to the Pet Care centre in Calgary right away as he would need an emergency surgery.

The Care Centre confirmed the diagnosis and did the life saving surgery overnight on a Good Friday. It look Loki about 8 weeks to recover and regain motility in his intestinal track. During the entire time Arrowhead was there for us and with us during the ordeal. We visited at least once a week as he struggled through with ups and downs. Loki lost about 15 pounds off his 70 lb frame. He was just skin and bones but he made it. This year Loki is a happy 3 1/2 year old and had a great annual check up where Libby reported him as being healthy happy and a great weight…. but still has a nose for socks… which are locked down like gold in our household…

I can’t thank Libby and her team enough for what they did.

To our Wonderful Arrowhead Clients,

We wanted to update you about our hospital as we enter into additional restrictions due to COVID-19. It’s been a tough 14 months for our dedicated team, who are going above and beyond to provide the best care for your pet during these difficult times.

Our team misses interacting with you and your pets inside the clinic, as we’re sure you do too, but we need to continue with our curbside service to protect both you and our staff.

The impact of COVID-19 has been felt in many areas here at the clinic. There’s been a significant increase in pet ownership, resulting in more puppies and kittens requiring routine care. We have our senior pets needing chronic care and pets with ongoing medical conditions who also need to be seen regularly. This, together with animals requiring routine care and annual wellness checks, has reduced our ability to provide appointments as readily as you’re used to. We are also experiencing issues with pharmaceutical and product resources, specialty and emergency care availability and staffing.

Navigating these challenges has been exhausting for our staff, who are giving you everything they have to give each and every day, so please be kind and mindful of the following:

  • There may be longer wait times booking an appointment, during appointments and getting results
  • There may be reduced availability of some prescription medications and food
  • There may be extended wait times for prescription medication refills, so please allow us 24-48 hours
  • There may be longer wait times with answering phone calls, emails and returning messages, but please be assured we will answer/respond as soon as possible. Please only use the Emergency line for true medical emergencies

To make your interactions with the clinic go as smoothly as possible, we have implemented the following:

  • Our phone lines remain extremely busy even though we’ve updated the system to make them much more reliable. Please make use of the dedicated prescription line and the general voicemail system. The mail boxes are checked frequently and your call will be returned and/or your instructions actioned as soon as we can
  • We have a text line you can use to contact us when you drop-off/collect your pet or pick-up medications, foods and supplies. The number is 587-802-3792 (Please do not use this for emergencies)
  • We have an online store where you can order food, treats, supplements and pet products. If you have already registered, log in on our website and shop away! If not, register on our website and you can start shopping from the comfort of your home. Deliveries can be made direct to you or to the clinic for pick-up
  • We have a Clinic App which allows you to book appointments, order repeat prescriptions and communicate with us. Please go to the App Store or Google Play and search for the Pet Health Network App. Once downloaded, text us at 587-802-3792 for your access code.
  • We have a “Meeter and Greeter” to assist you and your pet when you reach the clinic. Please bear with us if there is a line-up - you will be helped as soon as possible
  • We are diligently doing everything we can to keep you and our staff safe during your visit, including client health screening, extensive and dedicated clinic cleaning and staff wearing appropriate PPE. Please comply with our request for you to wear a mask and remain 6 feet away during any face-to-face interactions

We thank you for your continued patience and understanding with these necessary protocols, which allow us to provide your pet with all the care they need, in a safe environment for our staff.
